The faculty and staff from our campus wish to express their thoughts to all of you during this uncertain time. Here is a letter from all of us to all of you.
Dear students, alumni, and community members:
We hope this letter finds you and your family safe and healthy. The last several weeks have presented multiple challenges for our community, and we have witnessed so many acts of kindness during this time of great uncertainty. We are so proud to live and work with all of you!
The Province of British Columbia has declared public post-secondary institutions are an essential service. We appreciate the clarity of this decision. As always, we will maintain our approach of respecting and responding to the latest advice and instructions from governments and health authorities concerning health and safety. The situation, we know, continues to evolve and may require further changes and adaptations.
Here at the kálax-ay Sunshine Coast Campus of Capilano University, we are continuing to support current students finishing their programs, while helping new students apply for programs for the summer and fall. Instructors have moved all content online at this time including exams and our upcoming summer courses.
We wish to congratulate our recent graduates of the Health Care Assistant Program and the Indigenous Pathways to Higher Learning Program. You have completed your studies during an unprecedented time in history, and we are so proud of you.
To those students who are writing exams now, we extend our very best wishes for successful outcomes as you advance towards your learning goals.
To our current students, please know that while we are working remotely, we have services to support you. We are able to stay in touch with you in many ways including phone, email, or Facebook Messenger. Feel free to reach out to our counsellor for emotional support, or our academic advisor for course and program planning.
To community members who are considering a new direction or upgrading their education, we can meet with you by phone, email, or online to discuss educational pathways and options. As an essential service, and a proud member of our community, this is part of our role on the Sunshine Coast.
In the meantime, we continue to prepare for our fall courses including the new Capilano Year Experience (CYE), a full suite of first-year academic courses, as well as our current programs: Early Childhood Education, Accounting Assistant, Health Care Assistant, Business Administration, Adult Basic Education, and English Fundamentals.
We look forward to connecting with you in the coming months. Please stay well, and we hope to see you soon.
Warmest regards,
Micki McCartney, Regional Director, the staff and faculty of the kálax-ay Sunshine Coast campus of Capilano University
