The kálax-ay Sunshine Coast campus of Capilano University will be offering the Accounting Assistant Certificate for the first time in the early spring of 2018. This part-time, 18-month program provides students with training in accounting, computer applications, and administrative procedures.
“We have had many students ask for this over the last couple of years so we are really excited to offer it in a part-time flexible format to allow for students to work and take care of family members while earning university credentials” says Lydia Watson, program convenor.
Students gain a full understanding of both manual and computer accounting systems and the ability to apply this knowledge to business situations. At the end of the Accounting Assistant Certificate program, students will participate in a two-week work practicum with a local organization.
Graduates find employment as accounting assistants, accounts receivable or payable clerks, accountants for small and medium-sized firms, or they perform accounting functions in their own businesses.
In addition, several of the courses can also be applied to a Business Administration Certificate.
There will be an information session on Nov. 22 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the kálax-ay Sunshine Coast campus of Capilano University, 5627 Inlet Ave. or go to www.capilanou.ca for more information.
