The Sunshine Coast Camera Club started its ninth year of operation on Sept. 7 by hosting a club scavenger hunt at Porpoise Bay Provincial Park. The scavenger hunt challenged club members to capture images using particular subjects and photographic techniques. Photographers’ work was reviewed at the image review meeting (via Zoom) on Sept. 21.

“The scavenger hunt was a great success” said Laura Maddalozzo, club program coordinator and organizer of the event. “We had good weather and 15 people in attendance. It was great to see everyone in person.”

“Prior to the pandemic, the club had met twice a month in person and this led to great camaraderie amongst photographers” said Janet Slater, new president of the club. “Having to meet through Zoom has been a challenge because some members don’t care for virtual meetings and we all miss seeing each other in person. That said, we’re very happy Zoom allowed us to keep meeting.”

In fact, using the Zoom platform introduced since the pandemic began has allowed the club to access high quality presenters from all over the globe – something the club could not afford without the virtual platform. Through the work of past president Phil Cunnington, the club has also developed a “sister club” relationship with Caloundra Camera Group from the Sunshine Coast of Australia, which involves image exchanges and judging.

“We’re very pleased with the way club members have continued their involvement with and support of the club,” said Slater. “We strive to provide a comfortable environment for all levels of photography and to inspire people to try new things to take their photography as far as they want to go.”

The Sunshine Coast Camera Club meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month, with photo walks arranged as weather permits. For more information about joining, go to sunshinecoastcameraclub.ca.
