But it’s a dry heat

I can feel the heat of the scorcher we had Monday, very thankful for the ocean and the lakes that have cooled my body and cleansed my soul this week. With the promise of mid 20s this week and maybe rain Thursday the 8th, it should feel less like the forge on a busy day and more like a Sunshine Coast Summer. And along with that summer feeling we now have our campfire ban, most likely till October. FYI, gas burning appliances don’t count. Violators can get the “big coupon,” a $1,150 fine and a bill for firefighter response to quench their flames.

There are actual events going on! Our beloved legion has a summer full of music planned and I would lay odds they will sell out fast (but don’t assume anything, get your seat at rclegionevents.com). This week’s Friday show is local dance-o-rama five piece, Brothers in Farms. It’s a limited outdoor gathering ... but the little legion is reopening! Sam Pulpo will be spinning records from 4:20-5:30, beverages on the lawn and feelgood music to kick off what promises to be an amazing summer of live music and reconnecting in the heart of RC. $8 for members/$15 for guests of members. Saturday will have The Hook grace the porch/stage. Next Friday has Grant Olson, a favourite we have missed these long, long months, and Saturday it’s the Sofa Kings. All shows are listed as 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. with max capacity of 50. I hope to see you there.

Also at the legion, there is a partnership with the Roberts Creek Scouts to install a returnable recycling drop-off area in the legion parking lot; donations of returnable empties are greatly appreciated.

They need volunteers throughout the summer season. If you would like to help, please let them know at [email protected] or facebook.com/robertscreeklegion.

Beginning July 4, Slow Sundays in the Creek kicks off its 6th season of showcasing Sunshine Coast’s seemingly never-ending abundance of local musical talent. This year could prove diverse, as rumours of theatrical performance have been floating on the breeze through the Gazebo. Keep watching this space for announcements.

Expect entertainment from many Roberts Creek performers, new, old, past and present, to be featured this season, including Graham Ord (new) who has been rehearsing with Budge Schachte (past Creeker). There will be showcases for “up and coming” groups that promise to have folks asking for more. First up, this week the popular ukulele duo Whiskey Business is at 1 p.m. and at 2 p.m. Monty Montego and the Rocksteady Crew will get you in the groove. In accordance with all organized public events, a COVID plan is in place with a 50-person maximum in attendance. Please, bring sun protection as needed.

Our Wednesday Markets are in full swing and the produce and other goods available are at their peak. What a great time to support local eh?

Thank you for your contributions, feel free to give me the news to spread at [email protected].
