Botanical Garden hosts Harvest Fest

Sunday, Sept. 6

Enjoy a day of harvest, music, demonstrations, food and family fun Sunday, Sept. 6 at the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden, 5941 Mason Road  in West Sechelt, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is by donation.

Brothers in Farms will entertain with their homegrown tunes, vegetable garden volunteers harvest organic crops for the food bank, and the master gardeners answer gardening questions. You can find home baking and preserves, garden perennials and small trees, and huge garlic bulbs to purchase. The garlic sale supports the vegetable garden, which supplies the food bank with fresh organic produce every week.

Family fun includes a hands-on craft for children, giant croquet or grassy hopscotch, and racing through the willow tunnel. Rotary will be serving burgers and hot dogs, and the beekeepers will show how beehives work.

Take in demonstrations of fruit processing, tastings of wild-collected berry recipes and honey, Spinners and Weavers Guild spinning wheels in action, and the creation of a big nature weaving. View the surface of the sun through the Astronomy Club’s special telescopes, and learn some ways to modify your garden for the next dry summer.

Please bring your homegrown or purchased food item for the food bank and enter to win.

Harvest Festival has been sponsored again this year by Sunshine Coast Credit Union.
