Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden’s second Gala Garden Party fundraiser Wednesday evening, July 18 is sold out. And thanks to an all-star cast of local business sponsors, the SCBGS will be able to direct all proceeds toward our capital campaign.
“Welcome Into the Garden is Phase One of the 15-year Master Plan,” said Garden Society president Jean Bennett, “and involves a redesign of the entrance to the Garden to create a more welcoming and engaging experience for visitors. It’s an exciting vision and we are grateful to the local businesses who have stepped up as sponsors.”
These sponsors include: Sunshine Coast Credit Union, Coastal Weddings & Events, TCG Chartered Professional Accountants, Mike Carson, Ali Khan Personal Real Estate Corporation, Richmond & Feenstra, Sand Dollar Bookkeeping, Sechelt Insurance and Lois Potter Law Corporation. These businesses know how much more impact the Garden will have with a beautiful entrance, planned to stimulate curiosity, foster community, and clarify how to find the many special places within the Garden.
“Focused on a long-term vision and building a legacy, Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden is a community treasure. As a locally owned credit union, we’re proud to be able to support the space that the Garden provides our community,” said Shelley McDade, Sunshine Coast Credit Union CEO.
The Garden has shovel-ready construction plans and early fundraising has been positive. Recently appointed director Bill Lasuta reports, “Garden members and supporters have donated generously over the past 12 months, allowing the board to allocate $130,000 to the Capital Campaign. Another $450,000 is needed. Momentum is quickly growing in the construction industry too, with many offers of reduced-rate services or goods, which would lower the total needed to get the machines rolling. I’m excited to be part of it all.”
The event includes dinner by Alan Barnes, live music by Apasionado, a reception, plus live auction, raffles and more. Although it is sold out, everyone can participate in the online silent auction. Visit www.32auctions.com/GardenGala2018 and check out the generous offerings of local artists, restaurants, garden centres, non-profits and much more. Bidding is easy, and continues until July 19. Pick-up by successful bidders will be the following Monday to Thursday at the Garden.
Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden is a registered charity, issuing tax receipts for cash donations, and a portion of each Garden Party ticket sold. The Garden is open daily except Thursday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 5941 Mason Road, Sechelt.
