This week has seen our Harbour and Egmont come alive with the return of indoor dining at our favourite locations, live music through the week and reopening of the Bargain Barn and Harbour Gallery.

Good news for loyal clientele and coastwide bargain hunters, the Bargain Barn reopened June 2nd and will continue Wednesdays and Saturdays noon until 3 p.m. at the Madeira Park Legion.

In these early times of getting back to business, donations will not be accepted so do hold on to your new or gently used, clean and highly saleable items a little longer. In the future the Barn will return to its much loved, totally refurbished home location.

At that time donations will be accepted. The Bargain Barn is operated by a fine team of hardworking volunteers with all proceeds supporting our Pender Harbour Health Centre, Seniors Initiative programs and bursaries for our PH Secondary School students.

Harbour Gallery with a beautiful, breathtaking collection of new works is now open Saturdays for the month of June, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Next door the Reading Centre is in full operation mode. Renew your memberships now.

Madeira Market, Saturdays 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. has become a very safe, social happening. Come visit, come shop and enjoy live music! Each week a talented variety of vendors offer crafty creations, treasures and treats! Proceeds go to Pender Harbour Community Club. Memberships and renewals available at market.

Music lovers you have so many choices! Thursdays at John Henrys with Joe Stanton, Friday night dinner show at the Clubhouse 5 to 8 p.m., “Shine” Saturday at Madeira Market, Matt Richards, Joe Stanton 4 to 7 p.m. at the Back Eddy and Sunday at the Clubhouse 2 to 4 p.m. Peter Van Trio. Wow!

The tourist info booth is open in Madeira Park and Max will provide all the information that you need.   Be a tourist in your community. Support those local business that have persevered through tough times and be sure to thank our frontline heroes.

There is a book, On the Cusp of Contact, by Jean Barman that I recommend. As we mourn and try to understand the horror of the recent residential school discoveries this book provides a clear, concise history of Indigenous people and the impacts of colonialism in B.C. All these years I never knew. Twelve years at public school and not a word was said.
