The Pender Harbour Rotary 50/50 Draw is live! For quick access google Pender Harbour Rotary or go to their Facebook page and you will be taken to the site where you can see the current pot (and watch it grow), buy tickets and look at all the fantastic projects Rotary is working on. Not only will you have a chance to win the pot each month but half the contribution will go to our community through Rotary’s nonstop good work. The draw started March 1 so get your tickets now. Good luck, everyone! It is a win, win.

Open this week for 2021, the Bargain Barn extends a heartfelt “thank you” to our wonderful community for their continued support during these challenging COVID times. The Barn volunteer crew take their mission of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle seriously. Here is what happens to your donations once they have been sorted. Items are priced, merchandised then put on sale at the Barn. Books that cannot be sold are given to the “Book Nook” at the Egmont Community Hall or taken to the Gibsons Recycling Depot. The recycling depot delivers the books to Vancouver where they are remarketed. Finally, the remainder is shredded and recycled as a paper product. Shoes, purses, clothing and housewares are sent to GRIPS, picked up by Encorp and taken to the Salvation Army. “Timed out” and gently used merchandise is taken to and gratefully received by Egmont Thrift Store. This share program extends the partnership between the communities of Egmont and Pender Harbour and benefits both.

Ultimately, the Barn’s ability to support the Pender Harbour Health Centre relies on community support. “Keeping it Green” is central to their quest. Working together we can extend the life of many items, limiting what goes to the landfill. Keep an eye on the Bargain Barn’s website at bargainbarnpender.weebly.com for the latest information and check out over 400 items for sale at their eBay store.

Also, underway this week is the Volunteer Tax Program, a free service for eligible clients until April 30. Three options available are: walk-in tax clinics, at the PH Community School Thursdays 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the PH Health Centre Tuesdays 9 a.m. to noon; drop off/pick up at PH Community School Monday to Friday (drop off through the mail slot in the door and pick up from the box outside) and PH Health Centre Monday to Friday at reception; or call Harry at 604-741-5132 for an appointment. COVID protocols in place.
