Planning for the annual Community Easter Dinner “to go” is well under way.

The Community Christmas Dinner dished up more than 900 meals and organizers expect that this year’s Easter dinner will be equally popular. The traditional dinner of ham, rice pilaf, mixed veg, and dessert will be served “to go” and can be picked up on Easter Monday, April 18, from either the Gibsons Legion or Holy Family Church Hall in West Sechelt between 4 and 6 p.m.  The dinner is offered free to all in the community so that all who wish to may share in breaking bread to celebrate Easter.

Persons wishing to attend (or to volunteer, or to donate towards the cost of the ingredients) should text or call 604-865-2011 before April 15. Those planning to attend are asked to let organizers know how many meals are requested, whether pickup will be in Gibsons or Sechelt, and preferred pickup time between 4 and 6 p.m. Volunteers will deliver meals to those who are immune-compromised, self-isolating or otherwise housebound.

This event grows each year, with more community groups participating. This year, the Gibsons Public Market, the Elphinstone Secondary School Interact Club and the Elphie Culinary Arts students, Re/Max City Realty, Super Valu, and Gibsons Christian churches working together provided volunteers and contributions to ensure that all who wish to, may enjoy a traditional “home-cooked” dinner.
