A celebration in support of Robin Wheeler

The Sunshine Coast is a fabulous community, a place of warm relationships, interesting characters and caring for each other, not to mention high awareness of issues such as sustainable agriculture and respect for the planet.

The Sunshine Coast is a fabulous community, a place of warm relationships, interesting characters and caring for each other, not to mention high awareness of issues such as sustainable agriculture and respect for the planet.

As an expression of gratitude for living in this wonderful community, a group of people is mounting a benefit for Robin Wheeler on Wednesday, Aug. 3.

Wheeler exemplifies community on the Sunshine Coast. Her energy and creativity have had a huge impact. She is known and loved for her knowledge, her humour, her beautiful garden and her incredible work ethic, all of which she has shared generously over the years. She is a farmer, herbalist, teacher, food activist and writer.

She has built community in many ways. She started the One Straw Society (www.onestraw.ca), she runs the Sustainable Living Arts School and a herbal nursery (www.ediblelandscapes.ca), makes and sells herbal medicines, teaches permaculture to grownups and gardening to kids.

Now she's working on recovering from a major illness and can't work for money, so the community will step up to help her.

The benefit will be held alongside the Farmers Market at the Roberts Creek Hall. There will be a silent auction with lots of items to bid on, none of them very expensive. There will be music and stories. Wheeler's books will be for sale. There will be food to eat in the market. Even if you don't know Wheeler, please come and taste this wonderful community. Everyone is welcome.

If you have items to donate for the silent auction, contact Kit Artus at 604-886-1990 or email [email protected]. If you can help as a volunteer. contact David Roche at [email protected]

If you can't make it on Aug. 3, you can still help Wheeler and express your gratitude for this amazing community by clicking on the Facebook page Celebration of Community in Support of Robin Wheeler and donating through Paypal.
