James and Billie played by Del Herbert and Tilda Cobham-Hervey in the film 52 Tuesdays, which screens at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons Nov. 19.

52 Tuesdays, the next film in the Queer Projections Fall Film Series, screens on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at Gibsons Heritage Playhouse at 7:30 p.m.

This coming of age movie follows 16-year-old Billie as she tests her limits and explores her own identity after her mother reveals that she will be transitioning from female to male. Her parents decide Billie is to live with her father for the next year and she and her mother promise to meet every Tuesday during their year apart.

This debut film by Australian director Sophie Hyde follows a unique format. Using the same rule as the movie, the filmmakers decided they could only shoot on Tuesdays up until midnight, so whatever filmed on that day is what happens in the story on that day. The actors, all non-professional, were given the script one week at a time and only given the scenes that they were in. Consequently, the audience is also invited to experience this narrative alongside the characters and actors.

After the screening, filmgoers are invited to the MORE café and bakeshop in Lower Gibsons for a $5 coffee and cake special.

All films in this series will be shown at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons and start at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7. Tickets are $10 at the door or $8.50 online. You can reserve seats at outon
thecoast.ca up until 2 p.m. on the day of the screening.
