The Metro Vancouver region is going to see quite a bit of rain starting Friday, Oct. 15, 2021. Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement.

Environment Canada is predicting a wet and windy start to the weekend.

A special weather statement has been issued for Metro Vancouver. Up to 150 mm of rain is expected to fall between Friday and Sunday morning.

It's due to two systems arriving, one after the other.

"Two successive frontal systems will cross the south coast Friday through Sunday, with high water content associated with an atmospheric river flowing from the southwest off the Pacific Ocean," states the federal agency.

Strong winds are also expected, though how gusty it might be isn't included in the statement.

"There is a fair amount of uncertainty with the timing and location of these two systems, and how long the break will be between them, if any. Warnings will likely be issued closer to the event."

The high volume of rain, mixed with the damp weather ahead of the storm and some snowmelt, means there could be localized flooding in streams, warns Environment Canada.

The warning goes beyond Metro Vancouver and includes most of Vancouver Island, Whistler, the Sunshine Coast and the Fraser Valley.
