Here are your kicks and kisses for the week of May 24!
Kisses to Coast Reporter’s Michael Gurney for expert, passionate and seemingly tireless coverage of local arts and culture. Exceptional writing and photos!
Many grateful thanks to Keely in the photo department of London Drugs who helped me order photos from before Christmas! Thanks for your kind patience, especially when they went missing for a while in “cyberspace.” (Thanks to you Maryanne for finding them!)
Kicks to the careless person on May 3 who sped through the crosswalk on the corner of Winn and Gower Point Roads and drove over seven baby goslings who were simply following their mother duck across the road to the pond in Holland Park.
Big huge kisses for Sandra Cunningham for all she does for our neighbourhood, including activities to bring us together and keep us safe (emergency plan, fire smart plan, picnics, dump runs, park improvements and more). Thank you!
Kicks to the people who don’t keep their garbage locked up before pickup day letting animals access it and spread it down the road.
Kicks to drivers still driving around on studded tires in May.
Kisses to the wonderful woman working at the Chief Steward’s office on board the May 15 L-run ferry from Nanaimo to Horseshoe Bay and on to Langdale. You are exceptionally kind and helpful and we appreciate your efforts!
Kisses to the neighbourhood volunteers and the SCRD parks department for promptly cleaning up the spray paint vandalism in Whispering Firs Park. The trails and playground are once again a welcoming and inclusive oasis thanks to your hard work.
Kisses to our local SAR team headed by Sue Duxbury. I’ve never had to use your services but it’s comforting knowing that you are there if needed. Thank you for your service to our community.
Kisses and gratitude to the Gibsons Outreach worker who was there to provide support to a young man in need and kisses to the guy in the vehicle who asked if all was OK when we were checking for vitals. It takes a village!
Big thanks to the Brick for their prompt professional repair of our chair! Was a seamless pickup and return. Much appreciation to Les, Axel, Jake, Spencer and Courtney.
Sincere thanks to the RCMP officer for showing up at the Gibsons Elementary crosswalk on Thursday afternoon. Your support was very welcome.
Kicks to the condo who authorised an unnecessary pressure washing of walkways during the Victoria Day weekend. Legally permitted, but with an imminent water shortage, totally irresponsible!
Kisses to all those who have swapped out their automatic irrigation sprinklers and sprayers for micro-drip, which uses a fraction of the water.
Email your Kisses and Kicks to [email protected]. The deadline for submissions is 1 p.m. every Tuesday for a given week.
Coast Reporter will run kisses and kicks entries as space permits on a first-received, first-published basis.
Submissions must be accompanied by a name and phone number for confirmation by the editor. Names will not be printed in the column unless requested by the writer, for kisses only.
A kick is intended to be an anonymous critique between private parties and may in no way publicly identify an individual, group or business directly or indirectly.
Submissions must be no longer than 30 words. If your thanks or critique is longer, consider an ad in our classified section. The editor reserves the right to edit or refuse to run any submission.
