The recent weather is a reminder that we are still part of Canada. After a week of below freezing temperatures, I think we are all ready for some heat.
Soulstream, called “Vancouver’s hottest house band,” is back at Roberts Creek Hall, Saturday, Jan 18, to help the Gibsons Landing Jazz Festival celebrate their 25 years of presenting live music on the Sunshine Coast. This 10-piece party dance band’s repertoire includes anything that grooves: Herbie Hancock, Earth Wind and Fire, Prince, Marvin Gaye, and on and on. Tickets for this fundraiser are $30, available at The Kube Studio, 875 Gibsons Way, MELOmania in Roberts Creek and Strait Music in Sechelt. Gather your friends and get ready to heat up the dance floor in this decidedly cold January.
Choices need to be made because, on the same night at the Little Legion, I just happen to be doing what I love to do behind the drum kit at my Invitational Birthday Jam! Being part of The Daggers, our local surf punk dynamos, I will lay down hot beats as we showcase our new lineup with the addition of Jay Dagger on the bass. Jamie has let loose and is swinging the microphone! To add to the fun of the evening, we will be entertained by an “if you aren’t living on the edge you are taking up too much space” style jam of nine separate 15-minute sets of groups created on the spot. This invitation only jam has 30 local and Lower Mainland musicians signed up to play the game. $10 members, $15 non-members. Somebody will need to give me a ride home.
