Halfmoon Bay: Family reading is the focus

Reading Families Book Club will be meeting in the school library on Wednesday June 12 at 5:30 p.m. They will be discussing The One and Only Ivan. There are copies of the book in the Community School office; email Wendy at wwhite@sd46.bc.ca or stop by the office to borrow a copy. 

They have a new club at the school, HMB Kids Fishing Club! Bring your lifejackets and come and see what you can catch off the government dock. Parent drivers and volunteers are needed; open to all grades. Contact Wendy for more information. 

This year the last day of school is June 27. 

Learn, prepare and prevent these fires. Sunshine Coast residents are invited to a public meeting Monday, June 10 at Chatelech Secondary School Theatre regarding Urban Interface Fire Prevention. Learn about the prevention of catastrophic fires that can occur where Crown Land meets private land. The Sunshine Coast Community Forest has invited four speakers to share their expert knowledge. 

The Annual BC Bat Count has just started, and the Sunshine Coast Wildlife Project is asking people to participate in this important project by reporting bat roosts and counting bats. 

The Wildlife Project will be at Sargeant Bay on the berm this Saturday, June 8, at 9 p.m. doing a bat count with their acoustic listening equipment. To learn more about bats, which are protected under the wildlife act and help control the insect population, contact coastwildlife@gmail.com or call 604-989-1007. 

The Halfmoon Bay Branch of the Sunshine Coast Health Auxiliary is holding its wind up for the summer meeting and lunch at the Blue Ocean Golf Course on Monday, June 10 at 9:45 a.m. They will be meeting again in September. 

A Western theme has been set for the 2019 Half-moon Bay Country Fair, so bring your cowboy boots.
