Families in Need fundraiser needs your help

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful week. With the wind, rain and rare sunny breaks, some tend to stay inside and hunker down. These dark dreary days can be trying for some folks so find little projects around the house to keep the brain and body occupied. Don’t forget to step outside now and then to take in the fresh air and then get back in to check on those gingerbread cookies.

It’s that time of year again for the Halfmoon Bay Families in Need fundraiser. Jay Davis, Halfmoon Bay Community Association director, said, “We have children in Halfmoon Bay that arrive at our HMB school hungry. The staff at the school have implemented a daily breakfast program. All the students may participate in this program at no cost. The program insures that any child who is hungry can at least begin their day of learning with nutritious food to fuel their growing minds and bodies.” For this program to be successful, the school needs your help. Any donation amount is welcome and very much appreciated. If you would like to donate, please visit the Halfmoon Bay Families in Need gofundme page on Facebook. Thank-you Jay and HMB school coordinators for working so hard for this very important program.

The Halfmoon Bay – Chatelech Community School Association Annual General Meeting is scheduled on Dec. 1 via Zoom. The AGM is open to all community members of Halfmoon Bay and Sechelt, not just parents. Its mission “is to create an inclusive school culture where staff, parents and community feel welcome and have opportunities to be fully engaged and excel.” This non-profit association is governed by volunteer board members. Wendy White, HMB Elementary School co-ordinator, advised, “We currently are in great need of directors, especially in executive positions.” If you have any questions or would like to attend the Zoom meeting, please email [email protected] or [email protected]. Also, check out their website hmbccsa.org to find out more.

The Sargeant Bay Society has been busy helping with various projects this fall and continues during the winter months. Volunteers have helped with trail cleanup around viewing sites near Colvin Lake and have assisted the Sunshine Coast Wildlife Project with cleanup of the unofficial campsite on the shores of Phare Lake. Volunteers are also monitoring the salmon spawning in Colvin Creek and removing debris buildup near the fish ladder. For more information and how to join, visit sargbay.ca for all the details.

Are you looking for some different Christmas gift ideas? Why not check out Halfmoon Honey? They sell amazing honey, beeswax and candles. Steve Clifford and Margaret Webb have been selling 100 per cent pure, raw honey for the last five years. Steve is a master beekeeper having kept bees for over 40 years in northern Saskatchewan where he managed 1,800 hives. In 2015, he moved to Halfmoon Bay and continued beekeeping here. During this pandemic, Steve has branched into candle making – his COVID-19 activity. Margaret said, “2020 was a very poor year for local honey so Steve drove to Saskatchewan and brought back 1,700 lbs. of Saskatchewan clover honey. We have been selling this under the Halfmoon Honey label, clearly marked Saskatchewan Clover and is also 100 per cent pure, raw honey.” If you would like to order some honey and/or candles, send them a message on Facebook (Margaret Webb). They would love to hear from you!
