Sophie Woodrooffe Photos - Jan. 1, 2019 On Jan. 1, approximately 100 swimmers registered to take a quick dip in Shoal Channel at Armours Beach for the annual Polar Bear Swim, organized by RCMSAR-14. Swimmers lucked out on the weather – no rain and a balmy 5 C. Prizes were awarded for best costume and Tim Hortons provided hot chocolate. A bloom of jellyfish won first prize for best costume and Kandy Anderson the cat won second prize. RCMSAR-14 volunteers Katie Hopson, Tess Huntly and Neil Ripley were all smiles. And Matt Summers and his son Weston earned their polar bear dip certificate.
