In regards to your article by Sophie Woodrooffe about Stage 4 water restrictions going into effect on Aug. 31, I can’t help but notice some problems. First, in the SCRD release, “Our water supply is at risk due to prolonged dry weather,” can rightly be called a misdirection. Our water supply is at risk because of the successive SCRD boards of directors who did nothing to retain our abundant supply of water, and the current inaction taken on capping development based on water supply.
The second: why is Janette Loveys speaking for our elected representatives? Do not our elected representatives have a responsibility to communicate directly with their constituents on this, the most important issue in the next election? I’m wondering why the group of them have allowed Janette to speak for them when they need to step up and take responsibility for this mess and communicate why it’s taking so long to settle on a solution.
Since our current representatives seem not be running the show at the SCRD, we need to vote in new people who are willing to tackle this issue in a way that’s responsive to the constituents. The staff at the SCRD are supposed to help the board make decisions, but the board represents us, not what is expedient for the staff at the SCRD.
Vote in new directors on Oct. 20. This old-boys club has to go.
