I pick up the Friday Coast Reporter and I read that yet another senior staff member, Nikii Hoglund, District of Sechelt director of engineering and operations, has tendered her resignation.
What is happening in the office of Mayor Milne and his councillors? What is the real issue here? While the public doesn’t seem to know exactly what the problem is, surely council must be aware. After all, they have been struggling to retain key senior management over the two years they have been in this term of office.
Actually it’s pretty scary from a financial perspective and its impact on the budget, and how can our district follow through on their plans, studies, consultant reports, strategic goals – to name just a few – without a stable management team? Perhaps this is why so little is happening in the District of Sechelt, especially when the councillors are likely spending most of their valuable time interviewing.
I also understand there was to be an internal assessment as to why senior staff are leaving to see if the council are a part of the reason – has this been done yet?
So many unanswered questions – and as a member of this community I am deeply concerned about the money that is being spent on out-of-town consulting and recruiting firms, legal costs, severance, advertising, etc. How much does this add up to and how will this impact our budget? What is the true bottom line for the taxpayers of this community?
It has been my experience in the field of HR that when there is a revolving door in your organization, you look no further than the top. I think it’s time Sechelt council let the people of this community know what is really going on.
