What Horgan should do

Letters

Editor:

I recently attended the celebration of life for Dave Barrett in East Vancouver. I saw Dave Barrett as a man of action. He became the premier of B.C. and within a short period of time, and with bold, courageous effort, he and his government made changes to benefit the people and province that continue today.

Dave Barrett was an inspiring man. I heard many politicians, ex-politicians, workers and socialists saying how he had inspired them. The one thing that Dave Barrett, it would seem, was not able to pass on to all of those he inspired was his courage, his boldness and his desire to do what was right even if others didn’t agree or if it was going to cost some money or votes.

I have written to Premier Horgan and asked him to go ahead and be afraid but gather his courage and do what is right for the people and province of B.C. and make changes that need to be made.

Here is a list of the most important:

• Cancel Site C. Pouring good money after bad and destroying our environment while you’re at it is wrong.

• Cancel MSP premiums now. Claw back some of the corporate taxes that the Liberals cut if you need more money.

• Return highway and road maintenance from contractors to the government service. Huge profits are made by these contractors while poorly maintaining our roads. There is no room for profit in safety.

• Do not renew fish farm licences.

• Stop all clear-cut logging and raw log exports now.

• Re-activate the Housing Corporation of B.C. They did a very good job of getting young people into their own homes.

• Protect the proposed Elphinstone Park expansion.

• Do not allow the Kinder Morgan pipeline.

• Terminate the Trellis contract for privatized health care.

• Stop doing what those who didn’t vote for you want and not doing what those who did vote for you want.

I would like to be able to look back on this government and say, “That John Horgan was a bold and courageous man who got things done for the people of B.C.”
