SSC (Sechelt Sustainable Community) tried to get a public meeting over the past three years as they watched the project go through four planners. And with every new planner, SSC was forced to go back to square one and recreate the wheel.

Council approved a public hearing for SSC two years ago (April 6, 2016), then took it away (Oct. 19, 2016) saying that it would be only a few months until it would be reapproved. The mayor professed that he was eager to see that happen.

The present OCP zoning for the property is for 1,600 houses and a golf course. Really? Does anyone want that? What SSC wants is rezoning from that environmental hot mess to something better. But this council is hiding behind an outdated OCP (eight years old) and its own regressive lack of vision.

Let the public meet and see what the project is about. Or is council afraid that the citizens of Sechelt might like what they see?

The mayor sloganized, “Say yes to the OCP … yes to Downtown First and … say no to SSC.” What a pile of hooey. The reality under this council is: Say yes to higher taxes, say yes to fewer services, say yes to lack of affordable housing – and say no to this council in October.
