On Sunday, July 3, we had to beach our 47-foot steel boat between Roberts Creek and Sechelt. We would like to express our gratitude to the people who came out to help – to the coast guard, police officers, ambulance attendants and fire department, and the many people who showed up and waded into the cold ocean water to bring us to shore, anchor our boat and do the many others jobs needed to be done: the family that took care of our grandson, giving him a stuffy, which he has not let out of his sight since; their daughter-in-law who stayed with me as I recovered from a bout of seasickness; the friendly neighbour Ken, who drove us to a motel right across from the marina in Gibsons; even to the woman who so generously splashed water over me to stop my heaving, which to my surprise stopped immediately – it really worked. What a great community you have!
