The proposed development for the corner of East Porpoise Bay Road and Wharf Avenue is excessive on many fronts: its height and size footprint, density of multi-family housing (potentially 220 persons could occupy this building) and yet there are few opportunities at this location for outdoor living spaces. The increased traffic will render this corner unsuitable for raising children. The mix of unit sizes with only four one-bedrooms in the total of 47 units causes one to scratch one’s head in disbelief. Sechelt council should be passing only projects that help ease the terrible shortage of affordable homes.
If built as proposed, the Wade’s daunting shadow will kill the neighbouring feeling in the area. Gross inconsideration is being shown to Trident Avenue and Wharf Place owners with the intended further cutting out of daylight and views to the west and north by this overly large building. We are not like Vancouver. We are a very friendly, caring small community interested in keeping our best values, and yes, we also do understand the need to grow the tax base.
