The following letter was sent to MP John Weston and copied to Coast Reporter.
Canadian federal government scientists who had conducted human experiments in residential schools and First Nations communities between 1942 and 1952, denying hungry children milk, vitamin supplements and dental care, were violating the UN Convention on the Human Rights of the Child - namely that "every child has the right to life: states shall ensure to the maximum child survival and development. States shall protect children from physical or mental harm and neglect."
Canada, a signatory to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, is legally accountable for meeting the obligations that make children's rights meaningful.
In January 2013, an Ontario court ruled that the Harper government is obligated to turn over some five to six million unreleased documents to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission relevant to the criminal experiments. It's only just that the federal government give the documents to the Commission quickly before its mandate expires within one year.
Mr. Weston, as a government MP representing thousands of people, don't you think it's your responsibility to talk with Prime Minister Harper asking him to release the detailed documents related to the atrocious experiments?
