Another spring and, again, start the worries around keeping our bears safe. Around Nickerson Road, in West Sechelt, we are seeing neighbours leaving their trash out the night before collection, which unnecessarily attracts bears and puts them in danger in an area that is a wildlife corridor. We must do better for our wildlife this year. It is our responsibility to help each other become bear smart so that our community is safe.
So, please, drive around your neighborhood to make sure nobody is leaving trash out the night before collection. Use Pine Sol. Talk to your neighbours. Let’s all be the annoying neighbour who is worried about keeping bears safe. If none of this works, one can always call the bylaw so that the offenders get fined. It is unacceptable that wildlife pays with their life just because we refuse to change our habits. Sechelt residents: bear lovers are watching, don’t get fined!
