It's about time the federal and provincial governments got together to get a bridge built to the mainland.
After all, the Sunshine Coast is part of the Lower Mainland of B.C. It should be treated the same as other parts of the Lower Mainland - now having five crossings of the Fraser River plus a tunnel and talk of replacing the Pattullo Bridge.
We on the Sunshine Coast have seen our ferry system go way downhill in the past years since this "quasi-independent ferry corporation" took over.
Now it seems there is always an overload at all times I have had to go to the Lower Mainland. I was down to Langdale to catch the 8:30 a.m. ferry on Monday, Aug. 19. I arrived at 7:50 a.m. and was told if I didn't have a reservation I would have to wait for the 10:50 a.m. ferry. Unbelievable. There was also an overload on that ferry, and it didn't leave Langdale until 11:25 a.m.
There are a lot of residents who won't use the ferry system because of service and cost. They go by airplane or just don't leave. At least with a bridge, even with a toll, we would be able to come and go at any time, 24 hours of any day, not as it is now.
