Water, not meters

Re: “Water-meter loan AAP fails,” July 27.

Mr. Milne, you still don’t get it. You want to waste your time and taxpayers’ money to figure out why the “I Oppose” electors won over your water meters.

You say those who signed the “I Oppose” forms might have been misinformed. Sir, the only one misinformed was you, when you asked your small group of people about running for mayor. As for you as chair of the SCRD, and your predecessors, who either can’t or are unwilling to make a proper decision on water for the Sunshine Coast, I ask you to step aside and allow the taxpayers to make that decision.

Hundreds of people I spoke with all agree – water before meters!

We want and deserve a referendum on water. Send out an RFP about bringing water from Clowhom Lake, a glacier-fed lake which is 20 miles long and less than 25 miles from Sechelt. Leave Chapman Lake alone for the salmon before they are gone forever.

It may cost 50 – 75 – 80 million dollars for this, and for storage of the water, to happen. It’s cheaper to pay now than 20 years from now.

Let the taxpayers decide! See how easy it is to make a decision?
