Water meters save water

Seven years ago the SCRD installed nine water meters on lower Selma Park Road; the residents had complained about flooding basements and septic fields. After the installation it was found that six homes leaked water. The estimate on my home was two million litres of water a year – yes, just one home. After identifying the leaks because of the meters, the six homes repaired or replaced their water lines.

The purpose of the meters is to save water. This action was done to find the leaks. Call it an emergency pilot project. It worked. Our residents have saved you millions and millions of litres of water, because statistically 40 per cent of homes over 25 years of age are leaking water. For those of you who think of a few dollars on your taxes, see what happens to your bill when they start trucking in water. Grow up. Infrastructure is a necessity. What I don’t understand was the SCRD sitting on their hands for seven years.
