Water and wildfires

Letters

Editor:

An open letter to SCRD chair and Area B director Lori Pratt.

We are residents of Halfmoon Bay. We are interested in the SCRD’s plan for the water woes we have been experiencing every year, which are getting worse, not better, with no remedy in sight. We can find no information on either the SCRD website or the Sechelt District website of any upcoming meetings or planning to mitigate the water issue.

Recently on CBC radio the Sunshine Coast was singled out as the worst in B.C. for being forced to adhere to Stage 4 water restrictions. The mayor of Sechelt was interviewed but said nothing except there was no plan in place. Just more studies.

Firefighters have given advice about how to protect your home during wildfire season. One action is to keep dampened the planted areas close to your house. Disconcerting is the Stage 4 demand that nothing be watered, at the very time that wildfires are raging very close to home.

Anyone who saw the pictures of the scorched town of Paradise wants to be able to do what the experts tell us to do, keep our planted areas dampened.

Residents’ concerns are growing along with the population. Please give us all information about the SCRD water plans.
