Let me get this straight now. I arrived at the Horseshoe Bay terminal one and a half hours before the scheduled 5:55 afternoon sailing. Knowing it was running almost one-half hour late, I figured I had plenty of time, being on a mid-week Wednesday. I should back up a little. After exiting the highway, the cars ahead of me were slowing down to a crawl as we went under the highway overpass, and within another 100 yards or so, all came to a stop and we were nowhere near the terminal, let alone the tollbooth. What was happening? But wait, today is the last day of school, the beginning of the Canada Day long weekend and the July 4 U.S. holiday at the other end of the weekend.
So here we are: it is now 10 p.m. – five and one-half hours later – and the terminal is jam-packed and the last ferry is just arriving at Berth C. Maybe I am one of the fortunate ones as I have only a 25-minute drive to get home to Sechelt and it will be close to midnight.
Come on, BC Ferries – surely you can do better than that. Almost eight hours for a 40-minute ferry run. Meanwhile the Queen of Coquitlam was sitting idle all day in Langdale. Unbelievable.
