Michael Maser, in last week’s edition of Coast Reporter, was quite right in his outrage over the influence of big money in B.C. politics (“How low will they go?”). However, I believe it is completely unfair of him to lump the NDP in the same boat with Christy Clark’s Liberals.
The BC NDP is making “ban big money in politics” one of their central campaign messages, and have attempted to introduce exactly such a bill six times in the B.C. Legislature.
In this election, the BC NDP must still raise funds under the current rules in order to counter the tens of millions of communications dollars (much of which is taxpayer money) being expended by the Christy Clark government and BC Liberals. The only viable way to change the “wild west” of political party funding is to elect a BC NDP government.
