Many senior residents on the Sunshine Coast will be interested to know about a meeting coming up soon. Due to changes in the pensions regulations in the UK, many individuals who worked for only a short time in the UK may now be eligible for a UK pension.

The Canadian Association of British Pensioners (CABP) is holding a meeting Sept. 18 in Sechelt to let people know about the changes.

About half of all ex-pat British pensioners receive annual cost-of-living increases in their pensions, while those living in Canada have their pensions frozen. CABP is an organization that advocates for the rights of former UK residents now living in Canada. Apart from fighting for equivalent treatment and justice in the UK, CABP holds meetings throughout the country to inform ex-pats of their rights and to invite them to support the struggle for fair treatment.

The meeting will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 5591 Wharf Rd., Sechelt, at 1:30pm on Saturday Sept. 18. Anyone who has ever worked in Britain is invited, and no registration is required.
