I moved to Gibsons from Coquitlam about two years ago where over a period of 25 years I saw much traffic controversy similar to this situation. In Coquitlam today, almost every intersection has a traffic light, and more are coming. Most have left turn controls and none are timed, so one must stop at every light. It's become an absolute nightmare and now more controversial than ever.

I was attracted to Gibsons for many reasons. In addition to the slower pace is the even flow of traffic with a limited number of stop signs and controlled intersections. Since I moved here, there has been the addition of a traffic light at the mall. I can't help but wonder if this is the start of dozens of traffic lights between Gibsons and Sechelt. The talk of huge traffic jams caused by the change to two lanes is a mystery to me. Upper Gibsons is a business area, not a freeway on-ramp. I go there daily, and I fail to see any jams.

I have also read a few of the letters where over and over it has been suggested that "everyone" is upset about the traffic changes. It appears that the few who want it changed back are being vocal enough to have it seem like everyone.

There might need to be minor adjustments to accommodate a left turn or control a pedestrian crossing. But let's learn from the mistakes of other areas like Coquitlam and not turn into them.
