Gibsons' parks and culture director and planning director should travel to Pilsen, Czech Republic and make their 40-minute presentation to judges.

Gibsons, a finalist in the international LiveCom awards, has six predominantly European competitors on town initiatives. Since the United Nations environment program endorses this, whether or not we are on top, it's an excellent learning experience.

Sunshine Coast residents have high interest in bettering the environment and general livability throughout.

Knowledge and wisdom, the Good Book teaches, is of more value than all else. Our gratitude and good wishes should accompany those sent. It also means worldwide exposure, and larger local businesses are likely to sponsor such a mission. This can benefit travel and trade, and perhaps help in efforts that a new route from ferry landing to Sechelt should be moved forward.

In a way, it's an opportunity to thank past and present council members, all organizations and volunteers who work, for decades, to make improvements. Some citizens spent endless hours to contribute to Canadian and local heritage. How many thoughtful residents have shared ideas at public gatherings and on committees? Long-time residents and new arrivals value and care about our town to be better than just a place to live - as no other. Those are priceless examples for the next generations.
