It is appalling to me and everyone I've spoken to regarding the "coup" initiated by one disgruntled citizen exercising her right to contest a procedural oversight in a rezoning application.
The Target Marine saga goes on - unbelievably!
The results of the election referendum were unmistakably clear - 81 per cent in favour of allowing processing at the Target Marine hatchery site.
So what has been accomplished by forcing council and District staff to once again (for the third time) refer this application to the public hearing process?
Apparently the citizen got her satisfaction by making her point in Supreme Court. Although it is her inalienable right to do so, it is extremely unfortunate that all of the taxpayers of Sechelt will again have to pay for one individual's egocentric tirade.
This senseless exercise will cost all of us (the taxpayers) another $80,000 to $100,000 in tax dollars, which is approximately $10 for every man, woman and child in Sechelt. What a waste. There are myriad needy organizations that could havesubstantially benefited fromeven a portion of that money.
