In the April 24 article, “Pandemic could throw off water supply projections,” the SCRD’s infrastructure services general manager expresses concern that people are using more water, one possible cause being that they are washing their hands more frequently.
We have taught ourselves to turn the water off while brushing our teeth; we can do the same while washing our hands. Water needn’t be left running for 20 seconds as we scrub every surface of our hands with lather. Get the hands wet, turn the water off, soap up, scrub while humming a favourite tune for the required time (Happy Birthday times two gets a bit old after a while), then turn the water back on, rinse quickly, and turn the water off. Spritz the sink and faucet handles with a 10 per cent bleach solution to remove any possible remaining traces of the virus, wipe clean, and there you have it.
It’s all a matter of changing little habits.
