Thank you for your fine article on Syd Valentine (“A good day to die for Syd Valentine,” Feb. 2). The respectful and well-written piece was a moving description of how one person chose to live fully until the very end of her life. Syd’s is the human story beyond the legal and organizational discussions around MAiD.
In the past there has been a reluctance to discuss issues related to the end of life. Now, however, as a society we are engaged in a re-evaluation of how we want to live our final days and how we want to die. Your article is an important contribution to that discussion.
Most importantly, this story is a testimony to the care and love that people in our community, friends, family, care-givers and medical professionals, extend every day to those who are dying.
