Taxes for classrooms

Letters

Editor:

Mathew Wilson complains that the BC NDP/Green Party will be “dramatically increasing our taxes.” Whose taxes? Why?

Who is going to pay for the Supreme Court of Canada’s November 2016 ruling restoring clauses dealing with smaller classes, the number of special-needs children who can be in a class and the number of specialist-teachers needed in B.C. schools?

The estimated cost is more than “$1 billion” a year to return to 2002 service levels when Christy Clark was education minister and when the first unconstitutional teacher bargaining law came into force.

Thanks to our caring teachers, our children will be learning in properly funded classrooms paid for by taxes from people who can afford to pay more.

Isn’t that just?
