The Sunshine Coast Foundation has once again stepped in to help Gibsons Landing Heritage Society (GLHS) with a $2,630 donation to its operating fund as the Playhouse remains closed to the public due to the pandemic. The foundation’s COVID-19 Relief Fund has helped many non-profit organizations on the Coast during this difficult time including a $5,000 donation to the GLHS last summer. We are very appreciative of the foundation’s help in getting through the coming months as we struggle to make it to reopening, hopefully sometime later in summer. Watch our website www.heritageplayhouse.com for news of upcoming virtual events.
The support is invaluable particularly in light of a break-in at the Playhouse in December. This brings us to Julia Reeves of Gibsons Building Supplies Ltd. who promptly came forward with a $1,000 donation to help the Playhouse replace the sound system stolen during the break-in. GBS is a valuable community member, always ready to come forward when help is needed and is very much appreciated. Upon news of the break-in, long-term supporters Nest Lewis and Karen Careless each added a donation of $1,000, some of which will be used for the sound system, with the remainder headed towards the operating fund to keep the bills paid. Board member Terry McBride provided expert advice and significant financial support for the installation of improved security in the technical booth. GLHS has also received several other smaller donations targeting replacement of the sound system, and our heartfelt thanks go out to those donors.
We are fortunate to live in a generous and supportive community and we look forward to welcoming audiences back to the Playhouse seats. In the meantime, please stay safe, follow Public Health guidelines, do your part to bring this pandemic to a close so that the lights can once again shine in the Playhouse.
