I have been a resident of Pender Harbour for 49 years during which time my ability to earn a living was facilitated by the logging, fishing, gravel industries and the support of local residents and visitors. During that time I have worked for a bank, a fish collector, a log sorting company, various builders and a retail operation. I was involved in the ownership of a gas station and a retail outlet for many years and had the pleasure of working with great staff and customers on a daily basis.
When I arrived in Pender Harbour there were approximately eight places to purchase fuel for my vehicle including Halfmoon Bay. There is presently only one or two such services. While it might seem smart to make purchases based entirely on price one must also consider how our community benefits from local business including jobs, taxes, donations and support for all things Pender Harbour.
