Stay home until it’s safe

With reference to your online story, “Busy ferries anger Coasters after advice against non-essential travel”:

I want to host my family; hug my friends; enjoy local musicians; access multitudes of books; attend yoga classes; go to Saturday Market; frequent Lighthouse Pub; indulge in manicure, pedicure, massage, facial, haircut; leisurely browse the grocery stores; eat at the restaurants – and all of the other activities that make the Sunshine Coast such a special place to live.

I am abstaining from these pleasures because I care about the health and well-being of my community. We have health-care practitioners, ferry workers, grocery store clerks, pharmacists, police, ambulance and others who are endangering themselves and their families to provide us with an essential level of service. This does not include – and should not include – serving the egocentric conduct of those who flaunt the rules. I resent the selfish behaviour of those acting as if these are normal times that endangers us and serves to extend our isolation.

This is an extraordinary time calling upon each of us to do our part and it’s really pretty simple: Stay home until it is safe for all of us to leave.
