I thought I’d get a poke in at everyone’s favourite punching bag: BC Ferries Corp.
So, about noon today I’m checking their website for sailing updates, and yep, there’s yet another sailing delay of 44 minutes – posted at 7:05 a.m. Not a single update since then. I need to go to Vancouver this afternoon but – because BCF can often “make up time” on the run – I now have no idea when the sailings will leave. I phone them in the hope that they’ll have some current information, but there’s a hold time of half an hour and that, of course, is due to the fact that they can’t be bothered to actually update the website in any kind of timely manner and thus everyone *needs to phone them* to get accurate, current information.
To make things worse, a few weeks ago, I phoned BCF an hour before a sailing and was told “there are no delays,” but when I showed up at the terminal half an hour later, I was told that there actually was an hour delay. When I phoned about that, the nice clerk told me that they use the website for service notices and that had not yet been updated!
Most will agree that BCF service on our route is pretty awful so at the least, BCF could make things a little more bearable by providing timely updates on their website and ensuring that phone staff has the current information also.
