If you live in the Sechelt area, we need to have a taxpayer revolt. I am appalled to read in the May 21 edition of the Coast Reporter that the SCRD plans to use an Alternative Approval Process to raise $7.25 million for water meters. The District of Sechelt (DOS) just used the same process to raise $3 million for a new, $3.8-million parks and public works building. This means that $11.05 million is being spent by the DOS and the SCRD board on these two projects.

This is an indication that neither the DOS council nor the SCRD board know what they are doing. Spending $11.05 million in addition to the normal increase in taxes is outrageous. The taxpayers of the SCRD have already spoken once to say water meters are not necessary and the SCRD is trying to push this issue ahead again. We do not need water meters when there is no water to meter. Spend the $7.25 million to increase the supply of water is what is required. This was the issue that got the current directors on the SCRD board elected.

SCRD taxpayers, speak up and say no to the Alternative Approval Process to spend $7.25 million for water meters. Obtain the AAP Form, complete it and return it by mail or in person to the SCRD’s Field Road office before the July 7 deadline. (The SCRD should allow the completed form to be emailed to them.)

Talk to your friends and neighbours. Do not let this happen.
