On Dec. 26, many people chose to drive up to Dakota Ridge without chains, despite passing many signs warning that they were necessary. At 10.30 p.m. those same people were being rescued off the mountain because they couldn’t get down and had slid sideways into the ditch. Volunteers went out with chained up trucks and ATVs to rescue those who chose to ignore the signage. Families with young children who had gone up to enjoy the sledding, snowshoeing, and skiing, ended up cold, miserable, and hungry because someone ignored the warning signs and the road was blocked.

Please, do not drive up without chains. You may get up, but likely will not get down. This time we were lucky and there were no injuries incurred.

Many thanks to those who took the time and went back up to help.
