Simple redesign would have been better

As staff knows very well, I adamantly opposed it and voted against it while on council. Like Doug Hockley, I felt the scope went too far, did not include local contractors and has such a generic look as to be more in keeping with a bland community, which Sechelt is not.

It was my idea at the time and supported by the last council to simply redesign the "backward" sailing sailboat logo. We budgeted half what was eventually spent. I was aghast at the time that a committee was struck and I was not invited to be on that committee. Only after I saw a letter on our CAO's desk did I notice another council member, who is not a professional artist, was invited to be on the committee.

Yes, there would be a small price to pay for redesigning the logo, but if it had more community involvement, like going into the schools or asking for artists to submit ideas similar to our art acquisition program, it might get more community buy-in as well.
