Re: “Transport obviously linked to growth,” Letters, Nov. 25.
Perhaps Andrew Amanovich didn’t get the memo, but most of the residents of the Sunshine Coast like our seaside villages and country lifestyle. The hectic life of living in the Vancouver Lower Mainland is only a ferry ride away any time we want it. The economic benefit of transportation development quoted by Mr. Amanovich is apparent in other previously smaller communities such as Fort Langley, Maple Ridge, Mission and Chilliwack – and frankly they can have it.
Regardless of any potential economic benefits of bigger, better transportation networks, with every economic boom there will be a bust – just ask the people who live in Calgary, who by the way have the greatest number of roads and highways per capita in Canada (Maclean’s magazine, Aug. 22). It may not be perfect here but it beats the alternative.
The Sunshine Coast grows at a slower pace, thank you very much. We share our place and our pace with thousands of tourists every year who come here for this very reason. The transportation system we need is a ferry service that runs more often – an achievable goal if there is the political will.
