Re: “Ice cream vendor urges bylaw change,” March 15.

Thanks to Sean Eckford for the coverage of my effort to make a bylaw change in Sechelt (allow kiosks remain in place for summer season). News media coverage of my idea was not on my radar until a friend jokingly brought it my attention by calling me a “troublemaker.” Though the article mentions aspects of my presentation, it left out what I feel to be the most compelling. I told the council how I originally looked at Acacia Park as a location. I spoke to how I had canvassed the downtown merchants about how they felt about that possibility. The response was overwhelmingly positive with nearly 80 per cent of them saying, at the very least, “Why not?” I gathered 27 signatures of these merchants and could have gathered more but I ran out of time. In the presentation I said how Sechelt wants an ice cream shop. I was told so by various merchants and managers and have signatures to that effect. I even have a letter from the Sechelt Downtown Business Association.

The idea to situate in Acacia Park has stalled for now, so I seek to situate in Friendship Park. However, my main idea is to be able to situate the ice cream kiosk for the season without having to remove it daily.
