Editor:
Monday afternoon I was riding home on my wonderful electric scooter. Just past the curling rink I was riding along on the sidewalk and was not being careful enough when my scooter went off the edge of the sidewalk and I found myself lying in the ditch with my scooter on top of me, pinning me down. The scooter is heavy and I remember trying to move my legs but they would not budge.
A moment later I was surrounded by a group of wonderful folk who had come to my rescue. My scooter was being lifted off me, set upright in the ditch, and I was gently lifted and found myself sitting in the scooter seat! All was suddenly back to normal. Then the ambulance arrived and started to check me for broken bones, cuts, etc. The ambulance folk were very thorough and very gentle.
I was not injured except for a slight elbow injury, which the ambulance folk bandaged. All the folks and ambulance people were amazing. They all cared and went out of their way to be helpful! The ambulance people gave me the permission to continue my trip home. One of the people followed me to our home at the Country Village on Shaw Road to make certain I made it home safely!
I want to, with this letter, explain my pleasure to live in a country and a town where so many people will go out of their way to help a fellow citizen.
Our closest “first responders” are our neighbours.
Many, many thanks to all those involved in getting me home safe and sound.
