Eagleview Heights has been approved by Gibsons council after considerable and thorough due process. All aspects of the proposal have been reviewed in the context of the Official Community Plan by staff, at Advisory Planning Commission, committee of the whole, and regular council meetings. Additional input has been sought at a public open house and at a public hearing on May 9. It should be noted that at the May public hearing, council received 80 letters opposing and 93 letters supporting this development. All this to say, members of our community have been heard on numerous occasions; the original development application was adjusted significantly, based on the overall response from residents.
As a resident directly across from this development, I wish to recognize the diligence of town staff who work within the Official Community Plan, the willingness of the developer to modify the development to reflect community reaction, and council for understanding changing needs requiring a variety of housing options, as well as the effective use of valuable land and infrastructure.
As many communities across Canada recognize, medium to high-density multi-family homes are favoured by an aging population. This development provides choices for residents, as well as maximizing the use of our land and minimizing the costs of infrastructure to local residents, both during installation and in ongoing maintenance.
I appreciate our council recognizing the changing and future needs of our community, and I look forward to welcoming the residents of Eagleview Heights as my new neighbours.
