We applaud Mayor Milne, Sechelt council and district staff for finally stopping SSC. This development, promoted with extraordinary hype and mainly funded with off-Coast and offshore money, is nothing more than yet another suburb in the District of Sechelt and a self-sustaining one at that. The developers hoped Sechelt would provide the infrastructure while giving nothing back to Sechelt businesses and residents.
In these times of political correctness when the mighty pen is used to hide rather than reveal the truth and the power of suggestion always convinces, it would have been easy to ignore the first tenet of our Vision Plan, implemented with an extremely weak Bylaw 25, the product of another government overly friendly with development: that is, development should start in the core and move slowly to the outskirts.
Particularly, because the Coast has been left out of the foreign buyers tax, I agree with Blake Cyr’s letter of March 30 (“Can’t ignore OCP”) and hope residents will remember the councillors who were in favour of this project and defeat them in the November elections.
